This exhibit is trully classic, Paul Dini (writer of the well known Batman, Superman and Justice League cartoons) is fragment of the project and it shows. Unlike the shows mentioned earlier this present is for young kids, however it is written very well that an adult can sit through the episodes and luxuriate in them. The whole note feels retro, fromt he theme song to the episode splash. The point to so far has also gotten development and keeps getting better with a spacious cast of supporting characters, from his owner Kevin and Ace the Bathound (batman’s dog) all the draw to Streaky the cat and the Dog patrol.

However, since the exhibit is aimed at young kids, so is this dvd, with only 5 twelve dinky episodes, it hardly feels worth it, hopefully it’ll net some better releases later as this is a astronomical explain.
These are obliging retro-style cartoons, perfect for young children. If you are looking for Superman/Batman style entertainment for your kids, without all the explosions and fights, then this is it! My four-year-old loves Superman’s dog, and my two-year stale loves Streaky the Cat! I would give it five stars, but 60 minutes is glowing skimpy if I’m going to engage up set in the DVD cabinet. The first 30 minutes is already marketed on a DVD that comes with Krypto’s Rocket Toy. (Which my son, Krypto’s #1 fan, already has.) Any fan of Superman will like seeing that his dog Krypto has finally gotten the spotlight he deserves! Krypto was actually in many of the Superman comics of the 50’s and 60’s. The stories are well written, and targeted to young children. The animation here is qualified, and may remind you of “the Jetsons” cartoons.

When Anthony Hopkins was cast as Richard Nixon in Oliver Stone’s bio of the 37th President, many were leery of the casting choice. I myself pictured Hopkins doing a combination of Nixon and Hannibal Lecter: “I’m not a crook — and if anyone thinks so, I’ll eat their liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti …. SLURP!!” However, Hopkins does do a advantageous job and disappears into the role without becoming a standup comedian’s caricature. Even though Nixon does and says vile things throughout the film, the audience collected has sympathy for the character — even those like me who found the accurate Richard Nixon dispicable.

Stone portrays Nixon as a tragic figure who had the intelligence and the electoral mandate to elevate himself and his administration to greatness, but let it all scamper away by becoming bogged down in the quagmire of Watergate. Nixon complains incessantly about how the Kennedys are everything he is not. However, it becomes certain that his hatred of the Kennedys is based as grand on his loathing of himself as on any sincere scorn shown him by the “Eastern establishment.”
Stone, as in JFK, takes determined liberties with Nixon’s record and acknowledges as powerful in a disclaimer before the narrative begins. Even those who enjoy President Kennedy was assassinated as the result of a conspiracy, for example, would bag it hard to have that Richard Nixon was fervent, even tacitly, in the area to end JFK. Stone also takes liberties with his portrayal of Richard and Pat Nixon’s marital relationship. The supporting cast is wonderful and includes James Woods, Mary Steenburgen, Ed Harris, David Hyde Pierce, Annabeth Gish, Kevin Dunn, J.T. Walsh, Powers Booth, Paul Sorvino, Edward Herrmann, Larry Hagman, Dan Hedeya, Tony LoBianco, Bob Hoskins, E.G. Marshall, David Paymer, Tony Goldwyn, Fuyvush Finkel and Saul Rubinek. However, the standout supporting player is Joan Allen as Pat Nixon who is a lifeless ringer for the ragged First Lady. Allen’s portrayal shows the emotional damage Mrs. Nixon endured slow the seemingly placid facade she presented to the American public. Coupled with Hopkins’ Nixon, it’s an acting tour de force that carries the film.
After all the vile things he does during the course of the film, Nixon, the night before his resignation, is reduced to staring at a portrait of his idolized archenemy John F. Kennedy and proclaiming that “… when they glimpse at you, they search for what they want to be. When they witness at me, they gape what they are.” Even the most die-hard member of Nixon’s enemies’ list can’t aid but feel pity for Richard Nixon during this scene. It’s a substantial achievement by Oliver Stone to construct this bitter, contemptible and uncomfortable man profitable of the audience’s sympathy at the same time we disdain him.
Oliver Stone’s animated insight into the Nixon administration is not for everyone’s delight. The closest thing to a “JFK” sequal, ‘Nixon’ rolls all the players into a ball of naughtiness & takes it from there. Hard to maintain up with if un-familiar with the facts surrounding the ‘watergate-scandal’, but if you know your homework it’s alot of fun. Generous casting,I must say, Stone started this memoir upright after “Natural Born Killers” so it has all the internal flare of film-making. Substantial enjoyment on DVD, this film IS very under-rated,losing ‘Best Picture’ oscar to Mel Gibson’s “Braveheart”… you can peruse how not everybody wants this film around in the long-run. Thumbs up!

You’ve got esteem, friendship, weirdo’s all mixed up in one classroom, with a teacher whom is 27 and doesn’t seek older then 10 years. It’s hard to say what it is about, because there are there are so many different episodes. My celebrated character is Seki. He’s a guy who loves acting as a girl! There is a guy also known as feeble man and a girl whom is very dedicated to remarkable actually to her childlike teacher. This was very fun to scrutinize.

The biggest quandary with this series is that one of the students sexually harresses the teacher, and that she does this because the teacher looks like a small girl, and she likes cramped girls.
Another dilemma is that the girl doesn’t bag punished for this behavior. She ought to derive expelled, or atleast suspended from school. The teacher doesn’t inform her to cessation as a teacher. Now, I knew from the description that there was a girl with a crush on her teacher- and that could have been piquant if she didn’t torment the teacher and if the teacher didn’t leer like a child.
This present did have potential to be a capable show- there are some provocative characters in it and parts of it is very silly. There is this guy who cross-dresses, the guy that likes this other guy- who doesn’t even realize it, the girl that wants to form money to choose stuff, etc.
Perhaps, if the note were edited some, it could be fixed.

Finally, it’s here. Several years after the modern Gunslinger Girl blew me away with its handsome visuals and frightful premise, the much-awaited sequel, Il Teatrino, or simply Gunslinger Girl 2, has arrived. Based even more closely on the manga by Yu Aida (and with even more supervision from him), this series is a bellow continuation of the events from the first explain. Where the first series was less about action and more about the relationships between the characters, Il Teatrino zooms the focus in squarely on the action and spot. It assumes you are already familiar with the view of the “fratello” and the cyborg girls, and as such only gives a brief overview of the premise in various episodes. That’s not to say that there are no more emotional moments or frightful scenes. Far from it. In fact, GSG2 is probably even MORE evil with some of its subject matter. The prove is quite deserving of its TV-MA rating; there is more blood, powerful stronger language, and more spoiled things done to children. I won’t give a dwelling summary here, because it’s on the relieve of the box, and since I disfavor bright even minor place details before watching a explain, I will give the same courtesy to readers of this review. Now, about the somewhat controversial visual style… The first GSG, attractive by Madhouse, had a massive budget, with somewhere around $130k devoted to each episode. Il Teatrino was less fortunate, and had a noteworthy more modest budget. While it is evident that it is not the same animation studio (Arthouse this time around) or budget level, do not let that effect you off. Yes, the character designs have been changed somewhat, but the results actually extinguish up being closer in resemblance to the unusual manga, so that should be a plus for all you purists out there. I personally was not set off by the visuals whatsoever. If you are willing to observe past the negative things you may have heard, you will be quite pleasantly surprised, as I was. I had heard mostly doom and gloom about how abominable Il Teatrino looked, but after actually watching it (what a new idea, accurate? ), I was quite glad with how it turned out.
The English dub performance is another gem from the folks at Funimation. The entire novel cast returns for the sequel, and hammers the ball just out of the park. Frankly, this exhibit would not be the same without them. Laura Bailey onces again stands out and demonstrates her impressive range as Henrietta, and the rest of the cast picks up suitable where they left off in the novel. Funimation gets a gargantuan round of applause for pulling the cast help together and establishing some continuity.

All in all, this is a can’t miss, must have follow up for fans of Gunslinger Girl. Do not be build off by internet rumors or poor reviews elsewhere. This series, combined with the first GSG, is a masterpiece for those who bask in black, black, morally gray anime. Bottom line: retract it.
I finally finished watching GG2. I must say it was very pleasurable. For you who have seen the first series, the anime is different than the fresh but most of the main voices are the same. The legend line was pleasurable. I haven’t read the manga in a while but the present seemed to follow what I did remember. Action and violence mixed with the emotional complications between the girls and their handlers… I found it difficult not to inspect the whole series in one sitting.
The only complaint would be that only thirteen episodes are presented. Two other episodes, 14 & 15, were not included, though they were in the Japan release. Other than that, I would recommend buying this box state. If you have not seen the first series, I would say retract both, but I maintain Gunslinger Girl 2 can stand alone.

THE SINGING DETECTIVE is a compelling, humorous, and heart wrenching mystery starring Michael Gambon as Phillip Marlowe: writer, protagonist, and hospital patient. Patrick Malahyde (Middlemarch) flawlessly plays Marlowe’s nemesis (nemeses) -three different characters with three different British accents. The cast also includes Janet Suzman as wife, lover and vamp; Alison Steadman (Mrs. Bennet in the novel production of `Pride and Prejudice’) as wife, mother, lover, and vamp (Marlene Dietrich lookalike), Joanne Whalley (ex-Kilmer) as nurse, etc.; and the housekeeper from the BBC television series `As Time Goes By’ as the school teacher from your worst nightmare.
In addition to the helpful cast and improbable settings filled with vintage WWII elements, one can peer `The Singing Detective’ for the pure entertainment provided by a convoluted region, quirky characters, musical segments, and many humourous moments. One of my current scenes occurs when Marlowe responds to the ministrations of a group of Christians who attempt to impose their musical doctrine on the hapless ward patients. Another angle for viewing this film is provided by the drama of Marlowe’s medical condition. Is it mental, physical or both? Will he improve or not? Will the psychiatrist be able to crash through his defenses or is he defenseless? A third avenue for exploring the film is the depiction of the creative writing process. How do Marlowe’s characters choose gain? What is the source of his place elements? How remarkable does he remember and how remarkable does he imagine? Can one score the line between fiction and nonfiction.
Probably the most enchanting angle from my perspective is the parallel between the Singing Detective and Shakespeare’s Hamlet: the play within a play within a play (the play’s the thing) ; the stupid Ophelia floating in the Thames (who is she anyway-at least three different women turn up as the same corpse) ; the different `ghosts’ who haunt the protagonist; unfaithful and spurned lovers; and two nameless hit men who try to abolish the hero over and over from the beginning to the raze of the sage. I hold this BBC production (1986) must have inspired many of the deconstructed and now classic plays and films produced in the 1990s including `L.A. Confidential’; Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead’; `Pulp Fiction’; Reservoir Dogs’; `The Spanish Prisoner’; `Mulholland Drive’; and others.

Victor Hugo’s “Hunchback” was perfectly cast with Charles Laughton as Quasimodo the deaf & disfigured bell ringer of Notre Dame. The exquisite Maureen O’Hara (US debut at 19) as the gypsy girl, Esmeralda. The villian Frollo (the Chief Justice of Paris) played expertly by Sir Cedric Hardwicke. The narrative, the sets and castings chemistry rival any of the before mentioned films of 1939.

To indulge in Hollywood’s Golden Age and the acting talent which was at its Paramount sight and indulge in this greatest film Classic of Victor Hugo’s “The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939) “.
Even granting my negate lack of objectivity in evaluating this Hunchback after radiant it for 45 years (during which I must have seen it terminate to 50 times, including two viewings in the past two weeks), it remains sparkling in every respect. Laughton’s performance remains unmatched and the gold standard for Quasimodo interpreters. The 19-year-old Maureen O’Hara is as new and ravishing and humane as in my earliest recollections. Sir Cedric Hardwick (an safe handle for the Jean Frollo character, no? ) is a perfect, pinched-nostril’d villain. RKO’s production values are second to none, and Joseph August’s photography (coupled to Dieterle’s film sensibility and scene framing, so touched by German cinematic impressionism) is absolute perfection. So too is the heralded Alfred Newman gain, perhaps the finest marriage of musical phrase to filmed sequence to that point in film history–swellingly Wagnerian at emotional highpoints, but lean, linear, and distinctly 15th-16th century when period atmosphere is called for (listen for Tielmann Susato and other renaissance masters, skillfully woven in) .
But, in the slay, it’s Laughton and Paris and the brilliantly recreated cathedral that stand at the picture’s center. Unspeakably gorgeous and, in the extinguish, unbearably heartbreaking.
The DVD transfer, however, is something of a disappointment–only three stars for its quality, particularly in the first reel. But don’t secure me wrong–it’s more than simply “watchable” and looks as grand as anything else from the period you you might bustle across on TCM; it improves from the picture’s middle third on, and the sound is fair. The DVD extras are extremely significant for recounting many production details; indeed, what I had always plan to be spectacularly wrought matte shots were, I learned in the included production documentary, a 5-acre recreation of 15th century Paris, designed from ancient woodcuts and drawings. (The otherwise aesthetic documentary sadly omits all mention of cinematographer August, who shot a number of pictures–Gunga Din, They Were Expendable, The Informer, The Devil and Daniel Webster–that are as often remembered for their distinctive “glimpse” and as for their “film classic” region.) And the Maureen O’Hara interview, for those of us who grew up smitten with her, is a sheer delight–more than a half-century later and as flashing and splendid as ever.

Film buffs design a gigantic to-do over 1939 as “Hollywood’s Greatest Year.” Everyone else will agree once they procure a load of the filmography of 1939 that’s included here as an extra. It’s objective a list, but what a list.
Permesso…a biographical aside: Dieterle’s Hunchback, which holds a special situation in my heart for a variety of reasons, but especially because it led directly to twin additions: to books, and to movies. As a cramped boy, my savor for this record narrative naturally led me to read my first adult “chapter book”–a 35 cent Bantam translation of the Hugo original. I’ve been book-addicted ever since, transposing my library browsing to the adult stacks and leapfrogging the entire body of classic juvenile literature that I eventually afflict up reading to my hold children. And movie-addicted, too–also as a boy, I hunted down the Lon Chaney Hunchback in a NYC repertory film house, saw the (rank) Tony Quinn version in the theater, and since have seen, I pronounce, every subsequent remake. And I also saw almost all of those extraordinary 1939 pictures, mostly on Million Dollar Movie, the former NY WOR program that showed a movie about 16 times a week (twice a week day and three times a day on weekends) .
Generally, a movie held as dearly in memory as I have held this simply cannot doesn’t support its recalled impact on re-viewing–it may seem dated, or trite, or visually uncompelling, emotionally vapid, saccharine, etc., to a contemporary film lover. But the Dieterle/Laughton Hunchback remains an significant film, here presented in an outstanding package, and at a bargain effect.

The Contract has a tall duo helping it with Cusack and Freeman at the helm, and reminds me sometimes of films such as Cliffhanger and The Hunted. The scenario of a fugitive on the hurry in the wilderness is nothing recent but this film also has some nice political intrigue. I found the arrogant attitude of the “East Flee” suits to be somewhat believable although at times the film had some improbable aspects to it when it came to technical direction. The main one was the depiction of a helicopter break that showed the landing as an outcome that was totally different given the previous scenes that showed how it was disabled and what the angle of descent was. Regardless, that is nitpicking and not unexpected as this film is not a dim drama that you would procure perhaps from the talents of Michael Mann. The scene shortly before the slay depicting Cusack’s character (Ray) meeting up again with Freeman’s (Cardin) was a bit over the top, considering what Ray had unbiased gone through he would have been interviewed extensively perhaps for the next several weeks and not simply allowed to go home and survey the 6:00 news the next day.

The film is palatable for the fact it is centered on a recently captured man who is in charge of putting teams together to carry out high profile contract killings. The myth plays out not on the streets of Los Angeles or Original York City, but the immense enormous site of Washington Site. Freeman and his crew of associates are believable for the most piece, and the in-house fighting that erupts among them when things go irascible is a nice addition to the turmoil they face, although not surprising or unexpected. Car wrecks, Helicopter crashes and shootouts all meld together glowing nicely. Overall, this film is a fine action thriller with a recipe that includes enough adventure to hold you watching till the demolish.
Enjoyable if not derivitive thriller with perfunctory performances by leads Morgan Freemand and John Cusack. The storyline is thin, the characters are thin, but the film is beautifully shot, had some incredible region pieces (the cliff scene) and some moments of nice suspense and action. A few of the action sequences are extremely well executed and surpisingly quite thrilling. On the downside, the movie definitely plays it too wonderful, there’s certainly nothings screaming “incredible” in any sense, and is lacking verisimilitude. Smooth, it’s a satisfactory and very scenic waddle, has some memorable moments, and John Cusack and Morgan Freeman even when only mediocre are quiet always fun to explore on camouflage.

This incredibly heavenly film is like a scramble to the outer edges of Eden. The glowing cinematography is a peer to observe again and again. Judi Dench’s measured thunder work is a perfect match. This film reminds me a itsy-bitsy of “Micro Cosmos” in tone and style. I have an affection for the gargantuan beauty of the natural world caught on film. I salvage it reassuring and also somewhat disturbing that this world is more mysterious than we can possibly imagine and also more awesome and amazing. Yes, feel the wonder and fear. Because that’s what this runt gem is all about.
Awesome film! I saw it at the Franklin Institute iMax in Philadelphia, somewhat ironically presented by Terminix. The lustrous imagery is incredible! I don’t know how this filmmaker achieved these shots, but you feel like you are about the same size as these bugs, as if you’re actually living in the microcosm of their microscopic world. Can’t wait for this to be released on DVD!!!!

For those of us who long to watch lives of faith portrayed with the grittiness and courage that this life entails and demands, here is the movie we’ve been waiting for. I found the tale immensely racy – all the more so for it being factual – and the acting, especially that of Frank Rautenbach, particularly genuine. Worth the money for certain.
I unprejudiced saw the movie a week ago. It was so lively that it caused me to consider on my relationship with Jesus. The Bonus materials were equally as pleasant as the movie. I’ve been a mammoth follower of the Sherwood Baptist Church movies: Flywheel, Facing the Giants, and Fireproof (which are without seek information from anointed by the Holy Spirit), and this one has moved fair up to the top with them! I continue to pray that all of these movies increase in attend and that we notice other enchanting Christian movies prefer root! I fair praise God for using such folks at Sherwood and the ones tedious this movie. All of these movies are life-changing because they are based on the Word of God! A right must peruse, along with the other 3 movies I’ve mentioned!
